Recap of Shark's And The Draft |

| Well, the Sharks’ GM
and coaching staff can hopefully get a little sleep now.
The draft is over and the picks are in. What fans need to keep in mind is that going through the draft is a bit like a protracted pregnancy; it takes awhile for things to come to fruition. In the case of the draft picks, most draftees won’t see Shark’s ice time for a couple of years and that is if things go smoothly and they are able to meet the impossibly high standards of playing in the NFL. The exception to that wait and see rule will hopefully be Alexander Korolyuk whom the Sharks rescued from another year in the frozen tundra of Siberia- like conditions. Korolyuk spent five seasons with the Sharks but elected to spend last season playing in the Russian league. He’s now back on terra firma in San Jose. The Sharks also nabbed heavy hitter Scott Parker from Colorado. Always a popular choice with fans, the players that mix it up on the ice the most tend to get a lot of attention. Since the Shark’s have not been known for a hard hitting playing style, Parker’s lack of shyness should make for some rousing games this coming season. Another fun fact, two of the wait-and-see picks are actually American born, one is even college bound. GM Doug Wilson and crew defiantly went for quality over
quantity; electing to give up a few picks in order to secure the type
of talent they believe will fill out the Shark’s roster. Next up:
how will the Shark’s deal with the ever revolving goalie issues?
We vote for giving Scrappy Doo, a.k.a, Vesa Toskala, a shot at the big
time. After all, he came out of nowhere and simply played some of the
best hockey we saw last season. In fact, there were moments last season
when many fans were convinced that Scrappy didn’t even know he was
playing in the big league; he was too busy defending the goal to even
think about all the attention he was garnering. Pure hockey, great defense,
incredible saves and a bouncy, go get ‘um goaltending style all
his own. Note to Shark’s GM and staff: don’t put this off
too long, Toskala has proven he can perform, with the best of them, under
pressure. Give Scrappy a chance to do it again.
